Have you ever thought you may never find your own shade of foundation because you always end up buying a shade that is too light or too dark? well, you have come to the right place. The goal is not just to get a foundation that is close in colour with your skin but getting a foundatiuon that makes your skin better and gives it that “Healthy Glow”. This article is to help guide you while buying that perfect foundation. Below are some of the fun tips to consider;
- Always find a foundation shade that matches with your skin tone: This should be done in good, natural lighting conditions because, not using natural light for example, a light bulb can actually give you the wrong colour or shade. You can actually test the foundation on the side of your cheeks down to your neckline. For some dark skinned people, overtime, i have discovered foundations with a yellowish kind of undertone suits them.
- Matte foundation is a no no for dry skin: If you have a dry skin, there is no need going for a matte foundation because it would only make your face look dry and sometimes, even break on the face. Matte foundations are good for combination to oily skin.
- Take note of the weather before buying: The weather also plays a great deal when you want to buy your foundation. Have you noticed that during dry (harmattan season) in Nigeria, our faces do not produce as much oil as it does during the sunny season? So, when buying a foundation during the sunny season, make sure to go for a foundation that has one or more Sun Protecting Factor (SPF), get a mattifying foundation (for combination to oily skin) that is of course in addition to getting a water based primer.
- Consider the level of coverage you want: One thing you also need to consider is the level of coverage you want on your face. For example, if you are the type that wants to cover up dark spots or face discoloration, you need to get a full coverage foundation or get a medium coverage foundation that is buildable, which means that you can apply additional thin layers for more coverage without looking thick or cakey.
I hope this piece helped someone in picking that perfect foundation!
